What Kind of Trainer Am I? Let’s Cut Through the Noise.
No Labels. Just Dogs. A Straightforward Approach from a K9 Master Trainer

In today’s dog training world, it feels like you have to pick a side.
Balanced vs. positive-only. Tools vs. no tools. Old school vs. new age.
It’s noisy, and honestly—it’s missing the point.
At Alan’s K9 Academy, we don’t subscribe to labels.
We train with common sense, experience, and the kind of adaptability that comes from years in the military and law enforcement, working with elite K9s in real-life scenarios where failure wasn’t an option.
That background taught me something simple but powerful: there’s no single “right” way to train every dog.
Some dogs need calm, gentle direction. Others need clarity, structure, and accountability. Some need training tools like prong collars or e-collars—not as punishment, but as communication. The tools aren’t the issue—it’s how they’re used that matters.
We take each dog as they come, and build a training plan that works for them, not for our egos.
Unfortunately, the training world gets caught up in debates over methods and gear—while dogs and owners get left behind. That’s not how we operate.
Our mission at Alan’s K9 Academy is simple:
Help dogs and families live better lives together—using the approach that works best for their unique situation. Period.
If you’re looking for a cookie-cutter solution, this might not be your place.
But if you want honest feedback, personalized training, and someone who puts your dog’s wellbeing above all else—we’re here.
Let’s drop the labels and do what really matters:
Training dogs the right way—for them.
